Review: This was my go-to (well, only) ride for a decade. It has a solid "ping" over a nice wash. Due to its weight, fast sticking patterns are no problem, as the stick definition doesn't get lost in wash, as is often the case with light cymbals - which this isn't.
Despite the name leading one to believe this might be just for those playing the heaviest of music styles, this is actually a very versatile ride. (Hey, even Buddy Rich and Ed Shaughnessy played one of these!) This does loud music situations well, as evidenced by Steven Adler, Troy Lucketta, Joey Kramer, and others using this in their setups.
The bell is well proportioned, making it easy to hit. Hitting it with the shank of the stick is pleasing, and sounds deep and powerful.
