Review: "Two 22" heavy rides are offered. The only difference between them is that one is equipped with three small rivets, placed close together. Both of the 22" rides produced solid stick definition, as well as a subtle wash that built slowly and simmered beneath the more defined attack, without ever getting in the way. The riveted 22" was my favorite of all the rides. It had mucho character. Depending on where I struck it, I found various tones and colors that blended together well. The regular 22" heavy ride didn’t have as much character, and it seemed a bit too heavy compared to the rest of this well-balanced line of cymbals."

Review: "The 22" Heavy ride is indeed markedly heavier than the previous trio. This results in a brighter, higher pitch, though it is still fairly dark by the standards set by most heavy ride cymbals. The bell is correspondingly elevated in pitch, and sounds pingier.

Also included for review was a Heavy 22" with three small rivets fitted close together. It always amazes me how just one small rivet can increase the sustain of a cymbal by quite so much. In this case the three little rivets gave the massive cymbal an extra shimmer, but not so much that it detracted from the overall sound."

Review: "Cymbals that jazz drummers often seek, but have a difficult time finding are rides that have a dark wash, and a ping that is just above the wash to be heard but not distract from the soloist. The Sabian 22″ HHX Legacy Heavy Ride is just such as cymbal. It is hand hammered and finely lathed, and even though it is a heavy cymbal, the ping is not too bright. In fact, I thought it was perfect for my own style. There is also a 21″ version that most likely would have a slightly higher frequency of wash.

This close-up photo shows the lathing that is very close together and quite shallow. The irregular hammering pattern is typical of hand hammering. The bell is lathed but not hammered."
