RUDE

Introduction: 1980
Background:

  • The Paiste policy of developing and creating cymbal sounds for every drummer’s needs is further explored with the introduction of a cymbal which is not within the normal range.
  • The RUDE cymbal with its raw, forceful character and its unrefined looks match the loud, vigorous nature of today’s heavy music (such as Hard Rock, Punk, Heavy Metal, New Wave).
The drummer needs strong, powerful cymbal sounds to compete with the escalating volume levels of this heavy music.
RUDE is strong, rough and aggressive, producing an intense force verging on violence. A very ‘live’ cymbal. (1)
  • Unmatched power, outstanding musical versatility, excellent projection and cutting power.
Many stiles of music today require a higher level of dynamic response from the cymbal set than ever before.
Paiste RUDE cymbals are designed and crafted to give you the highest volume output of any cymbal while retaining a clear, musical and vibrant sound at all levels. When played lightly, RUDE cymbals are lively and clean. When played forcefully with heavy sticks the dynamics and frequency range open up to a level you must experience to appreciate. (2)
  • This is our answer to Heavy Metal and Punk, when extreme presence and volume is necessary • In the year 2005 the series was extended with Thin Crash models, which give the series more control and sophistication • In 2007, Paiste adds “Wild” models for extreme and modern styles to the line (3)
  • RUDE cymbals with a raw, forceful character designed to match the loud, vigorous nature of today's heavy music. Powerful cymbals for heavyweight drummers. Think of the sound as a controlled explosion. (4)
  • Originally developed and introduced in 1980 as the RUDE series, these cymbals now belong to the 2002 family. Designed for maximum performance in high volume and live situations, 2002 RUDE cymbals feature a heavy mid-range frequency mix. Their raw, lively character make them an obvious choice for contemporary bands with minimal instrumentation, as their sound tends to fill the overall musical soundscape. (6)

Innovation: First cymbal series without any lathing, featuring uniform thickness and sound engineering to compete with the most extreme mid-range frequencies and volume levels

Alloy: CuSn8 (Also known as "2002 Bronze")

Quality: Professional

Production: Manual craftsmanship • Hand hammering • Proprietary manufacturing methods

Applications:Medium loud to extremely loud • Live and recording • Punk, Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Crossover Styles, Ska, Reggae, Modern Metal derivatives, and contemporary styles rooted in/or similar to those styles

Users: Working musicians, enthusiasts • All players who need raw energy and extreme cutting power and projection without sacrificing musical cymbal sound

Sound: Raw, metallic, powerful, lively, sparkling, bright, icy and energetic with heavy mid-range harmonics and powerful, cutting characteristics

Timeline: When the series was initially released in 1980, the cymbals featured only the white "Rude" logo, in late 1981, early '82 "Paiste" was added above the Rude logo.
In 1986, this original series was phased out and merged into the 3000 series. Also in that year a line of semi-pro cymbals with RUDE finish was launched, the 1000 RUDE.
In 1994, RUDE was integrated into the 2002 line upon the discontinuation of 3000 series cymbals. Starting in 1999 and continuing today, the RUDE series is a separate series, and reverted back to the logos that Paiste started using in ca. 1981/82.

  • Special Note - Serial numbers indicate that changes often occur DURING a year, not at the beginning of the year. Original white labels have been found with 1986 serial numbers, as have 2002 RUDEs been found with 1999 serials.
