Paiste 2001 Expansion
This is a list of all new Paiste models and sizes for 2001.
Dimensions
- January 2001
Paiste announces the expansion of its ‘Dimensions’ series by two models, the Medium Heavy Crash and the Power China. The crash adds an important new weight to the existing crash cymbal program. The Power China features a traditional style bell and an innovative edge design, which is turned downward instead of upward as in the Novo China, which the company received a patent for previously. ‘Dimensions’ are professional level, multi functional cymbals with extremely versatile sound and function. They are made from CuSn8 Bronze in traditional fashion by hand hammering and hand lathing. Since their introduction in 1999, reactions indicate wide acceptance among players of diverse music styles. ‘Dimensions’ have been reviewed by most important worldwide percussion magazines and have received very positive to passionate verdicts.

In an odd development, Paiste adds several uneven sizes to its cymbal program in response to recent trends and changes in musical tastes among drummers and percussionists. According to Erik Paiste, “over the decades we have seen the popularity of uneven sizes undergo periodic changes. Currently there is a strong renewed interest in uneven crashes, especially in the 19” size. Our job is to give drummers and percussionists what they need, so that’s what we did. This also gave us the opportunity to bring back some classic cymbal sounds.” With this move, 19” models are added to the Dimensions series in the Medium Thin, Power and Medium Heavy (also in 17”) crash weights. Dimensions are professional level, multi functional cymbals with extremely versatile sound and function.
In addition to the odd size expansion of the Dimensions series, Paiste adds new sizes to two of its Dimensions models. The Dry Ride, a cymbal that attained extreme popularity due to its combination of dry character, intricate harmonics, and unusually wide dynamics, is now available in an 18” version. The Thin China gains a 14” size, a fast, percussive version of the dark, complex Thin China models already available. “With these additions, Dimensions are approaching the vast sound spectrum and functional diversity of our Signature series,” comments Erik Paiste. “As a result, about one in every two of our top artists now chooses to incorporate Dimensions into their cymbal sets, a fact we soon plan to feature prominently in our marketing efforts.” Dimensions are professional level, multi functional cymbals with extremely versatile sound and function. They are made from CuSn8 Bronze in traditional fashion by hand hammering and hand lathing. Since their introduction in 1999, reactions indicate wide acceptance among players of diverse music styles. Dimensions have been reviewed by most important worldwide percussion magazines and have received very positive to passionate verdicts.
