Review: "The original DeJohnette crash cymbals were the weakest of the series, being so dry as to sound extremely gongy with virtually no shimmer. The 18" Encore crash is a big improvement in that it has considerably more overtones. But be forewarned that it is still an extremely dry, dark crash sound, and has a very low pitch. It also has a slightly flanged edge, like Sabian's Sound Control series, making for extremely fast decay. The cymbal is perfect for short punctuations, and as such could be very effective within a cymbal setup (even though few drummers would be likely to use such a sound as their primary crash)."
